Hello friends...Can you help?

On Monday, February 27th, we had a significant amount of rain and snow melt. Our sump-pump in the basement tried so hard to keep up but ended up overflowing into our lower basement lobby area, all over the carpet and into the elevator shaft. The water began to rise in the elevator shaft causing water to go over our electrical line to the elevator pit sump-pump, which then caused that pump to fail entirely. The water also rose so high that it went over the hydraulic scavenger pump of the elevator, emptying hydraulic fluid all over the pit of the elevator. Additionally, it has caused degrading to the cylinder packing of the elevator.

As we began to go over the areas that were impacted by the flooding, we opened a storage closet to find a secondary water issue which must have gone on for some time. The storage room is filled with mold.

Sadly, our insurance does not cover water, flooding, or sump pump failure. It also doesn't cover mold. Our total repairs have come in at $93,752.

We need your help to ensure we can continue to serve our community in need. In February alone, we

  • Distributed a little over 7,400lbs of food through our food programs
  • Served 206 households making up 310 adults and 232 children through our food pantry
  • Provided 1,416 meals through our community meal and shelter voucher program

And over the past year over 618 households registered to utilize our services which equates to 1,012 adults and 586 children.

Can you help?

AND sadly, it continues....

The added rainstorm in the early morning of March 31st has brought yet more water into our building. We are in need of significant landscaping in the courtyard to pitch the ground away from the building. Plastic sheeting and then decorative rock will be put in its place. Our elevator sump pump also has to get connected into a storm drain rather than just emptying out into the courtyard on top of the already rain-soaked ground.

There's also a significant crack in the foundation which will require another expert to come and do foundation repairs.

And, our drywall and flooring cannot be completed until we no longer have water entering the building, and our elevator will be out of service for several more weeks.

Thankfully we've been able to do a significant amount of remediation by removing drywall, carpeting, installing a commercial dehumidifier, and getting rid of the mold, but there's much more to be done. We honestly could not do this without your help.
